Water
Fire-bellied toads prefer housing where both water and land are available. They love swimming and running water. The water should be changed regularly.

Cleaning
The maintenance of the soil materials and possible replacement should be done every 6 to 8 weeks.

Handling
The fire-bellied toad should actually be handled as little as possible, because they have a fragile skin. Also, substances from human hands are very quickly absorbed into the skin of this pad. You can then catch them with a tray or have the toad jump into a tray without using your hands. If you do have to pick up the fire-bellied toad, it is important that you wash your hands very well beforehand with only water. After handling, hands should be washed with soap.
Housing
Minimum size of enclosure: For a group of two to four animals, a terrarium of 40 x 60 x 40 cm is sufficient.
Day temperature: Between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius
Night temperature: May drop to 14 degrees

Humidity: The animals must be sprayed every other day for evaporation in the terrarium. This also helps with the sloughing and flushing of the body.
Ground cover / furnishing The accommodation can be decorated with peat and possibly moss. You can place a few sturdy branches and stumps as a climbing opportunity.

Behaviour
Hunting: Hunts during the day and at dusk.
Lifestyle: Toads are poisonous and produce the poison in small glands. These are visible as small bumps in the skin. This poison protects them from predators, as well as from pathogens. When a fire-bellied toad feels threatened, it turns its brightly colored red belly towards the predator to show it is venomous. In case of danger, they flee to hollow tree stumps or dive into the water.
Character
It is a fairly social toad species. They are generally always in close proximity to a congener.
